When do I apply?

You cannot apply too early; however, your application will not be processed until the beginning of your parental leave. To avoid waiting unnecessarily for your allowance, make sure you apply before the middle of the month in which your leave starts.

If you are on unemployment benefits from ALS, you should wait with applying until immediately before your leave, because ALS cannot confirm your application until this time. 

The application for parental benefits must be submitted to Barsilsskipanin within one year of giving birth/placement of your adoptive child. After this deadline, you have lost the right to parental benefits.
